Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in the world is a place of international fame due to its holy and spiritual ness. It is famous for tourism both international and domestic. Apart from all these the cultural heritage and cottage industry in the form of Banarasi Sari, idol making, soft and wooden toys making have added to its popularity.
The city also experiences tremendous amount of daily and seasonal migration from the adjoining areas. Childrens migrate from Bhutan, Nepal and North East Tibet around Varanasi where there is a danger of pedophilia and drug trafficking. The unorganized labor from M.P. Bihar and Chhattisgarh dwelling on slums consume drugs and often sell their children due to poverty
Tourism and cottage industry is the greatest source of earning but at the same time it is a curse in the name of Homosexuality, child prostitution around slums & working places. Varanasi is well connected with the borders of Nepal, M.P. Bihar, Chhattisgarh & Jharkhand and centrally located among the 25 districts of eastern U.P.
Varanasi has sensitive pockets which are ideally located for child trafficking. The Railway station which is well connected by Eastern Railway., North & Central Railway gives ample chance to the traffickers in their business. Varanasi is also well connected by Bus routes in the border areas of Nepal (Sanauli, Bhairawa). The Mughalsarai Railway station is one of the biggest junctions in India and has tremendous railway network. Varanasi also has 4 small railway stations other than the Cantt which are often unnoticed by either police or general public. The ghat area around river Ganges is a happy hunting ground for the traffickers as well. The foreigners in particular involve small children in drugs trafficking and children also used in Pedophilia. Apart from this, the new developing slums in and around Varanasi city are harboring child traffickers and children trafficked.
