BBS is a self help group based non government, registered society (registration number-1708, dated 31st March 2005) established with the facilitation of Human Welfare Association (Varanasi based local NGO) and financial support of Find Your Feet (U.K. based NGO) for socio-economic empowerment of handloom Banarasi Saree Weavers.

BBS has its own coordination office and a showroom in Sarnath area, Varanasi. Presently total 96 self help groups scattered in 59 villages of Chiraigaon and Cholapur developmental blocks are associated with BBS having membership of 1250. These self help groups are further linked to 8 clusters forming cluster committees where 2 elected members from each group meets on monthly basis. Similarly 2 elected members from each cluster committee constitute the executive board of BBS.

• Decentralized production and Centralized marketing
• Intermediately channel for forward and backward linkages
• Provide raw material, design and technical support to the weavers

• 2 elected members from each group constitute cluster committe
• 2 elected members from each cluster committee constitute executive board of BBS
• Registered as “society” under the Societies Registration Act 1860 on 31st March 2005, having registration no 1708.
• Executive board consists of 16 members (2 representatives from each cluster)
• Out of 5 office bearing positions 3 are reserved for women.
• BBS has set up its own coordination office and an outlet (Gaddi) at Sarnath area
• Regular monthly meeting of executive board of federation
• Participation / involvement in planning and implementations of activities.
• Promotion of own loom, own raw material and self marketing.
  
• Gaddi is functional in terms of purchasing Saree and other value added items from the members of BBS and providing raw material support
• Disbursement of RF loans after proper scrutinizing of RF requests
• Sensitized for responsibility of loan recovery.
